It is a thin piece of leather prepared for writing on parchment. In the 2nd century BC, King Eumenes II of Pergamon, facing a shortage of papyrus, made thinned dry sheets from kid and calfskin, which were used like paper. The leather to be used as parchment was stretched and dried after being cleaned of hair, excess meat, and fat. After drying, it was sanded and smoothed, making it ready for use. The name parchment comes from Pergamos (Pergamon) and is also known as Pergamon Paper. It has passed into all languages from here. Parchment spread from Pergamon to the entire world, starting from the 2nd century BC.
Parchment is entirely an Anatolian invention. Sending a greeting to centuries past, we made bookmarks entirely from real kidskin. After 100 pieces, we can apply any desired design to create 'custom' bookmarks for you. The bookmarks we produced for [Link text="Martı Hotels" url="/product/tasarim-atolyesi/cemberlitas-hamami-marti"]Martı Hotels[/Link] can be viewed in our [Link text="Design Workshop" url="/collection/tasarim-atolyesi"]Design Workshop[/Link] section.
