It is a thin piece of leather prepared for writing on. In the 2nd century BC, King Eumenios II of Pergamon, in the face of a shortage of papyrus, made thinned dry sheets from goat and calfskin, which were used like paper. The leather to be used as parchment was stretched and dried after being cleaned of hair, excess meat, and fat. After the drying process, it was sanded and smoothed to make it ready for use. The name parchment comes from Pergamos (Bergama) and is also known as Pergama Paper. It has also passed into all languages from here. Parchment spread from Bergama to the entire world starting from the 2nd century BC.
Parchment is entirely an Anatolian invention. Sending a greeting to centuries ago, we made a notebook with a real goat leather cover. After 50 units, we can create a 'custom' notebook by applying the desired design to the cover. You can examine the notebooks we produced for Çemberlitaş Bath and the bookmarks we produced for Martı Hotels in our Design Workshop section.
