It is a thin piece of leather prepared for writing on parchment. In the 2nd century BC, King Eumenes II of Pergamon, in the face of a lack of papyrus at the time, made thinned dry layers from goat and calf leather, which were used like paper. The leather to be used as parchment was stretched and dried after being cleaned of hair, excess meat, and fat. After the drying process, it was sanded to make it smooth and ready for use. The name parchment comes from Pergamos (Bergama) and is also known as Bergama Paper. It has passed into all languages from here. Parchment spread from Bergama to the whole world starting from the 2nd century BC.
Parchment is entirely an Anatolian invention. Sending a greeting back centuries, we have made bookmarks entirely from real goat leather. After 100 pieces, we can apply the desired design to create a 'custom-made' bookmark for you. You can examine the bookmarks we produced for Martı Hotels in our Design Workshop section.
